The Diploma in Community Healthcare and Support (Level 7) programme is increasingly relevant due to New Zealand’s strong demand for key staff in the healthcare sector. NZSE’s experienced and passionate tutors are proud to mentor students in performing high-quality healthcare, ultimately contributing to their communities and easing the skill shortage. After completion, you will graduate with the practical skillset and technical knowledge required to provide holistic and compassionate care in palliative and aged care, rehabilitation, health promotion and primary health care.

Learners will study the following seven courses (120 credits) over two semesters or one academic year.
HLTH6001: Primary Health Care

Explore how socio-political and cultural factors affect health, focusing on health promotion, prevention, and primary healthcare tailored to diverse needs.

HLTH6002: Rehabilitation

Learn how to manage workers’ compensation and return-to-work programs across various industries.

HLTH7001: Professional Practice and Legislation

Explore the roles, functions, and legislation of health services, along with the scope of practice for health professionals.

HLTH7002: Research for Health Care Practice

Develop the skills for purposeful reading, critical analysis, and practical application of research in healthcare.

HLTH7003: Geriatric Care

Gain understanding of the holistic health of the older adult from a psychological, socioeconomic, spiritual, political and cultural view.

HLTH7004: Palliative Care – Tiakina Maioha

Investigate the concepts of quality of life and dying, considering legal, ethical, cultural, religious, and personal perspectives.

HLTH7005: 160hr Work Placement

Apply community health knowledge in healthcare settings to enhance the well-being of individuals and families.

Advance your healthcare career

With a strong foundation in rehabilitation, palliative care, geriatric care, and health promotion, you’ll be equipped to work across a variety of health settings and contribute meaningfully to patient and whānau wellbeing. A 160-hour work placement gives you real-world experience in environments like aged care or primary health, helping you build practical insight and strong professional networks. Graduates of the Diploma in Community Healthcare and Support (Level 7) can pursue roles such as Community Healthcare Worker, Health Promotion Officer, Health Educator, Palliative Care Nurse, or ACC Claims Officer.
