The New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Advanced Care and Support (Level 4) is designed for experienced healthcare professionals who are ready to deepen their expertise and enhance their practice in supporting people with complex needs.
Through practical, workplace-based learning, learners strengthen their ability to deliver advanced, person-centred care across a range of settings and diverse communities. The programme builds confidence, capability, and professionalism in delivering high-quality support.
In addition to advanced care skills, this qualification develops leadership and mentoring capabilities. Learners are prepared to take on greater responsibility within their teams, support colleagues, and contribute to improved outcomes across the aged care and home care support services sector.

Programme overview
The NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Advanced Care and Support (Level 4) qualification develops both clinical support skills and leadership capability through the following modules.
Module 1: Collaboration and Communication
Become adept with communication strategies around working collaboratively in a health or wellbeing setting, while contributing to personal plans and workplace reporting.
Module 2: Cultural Approaches
Develop the skills and knowledge to adapt to changes, honour cultural diversity, provide quality service, and utilise ethical practices.
Module 3: Support Strategies
Contribute to the planned support strategies for person(s) with complex needs.
Module 4: Delegated Clinical Tasks
Gain the skills needed to develop practitioner relationships and responsibilities through
observation and self-reflection.
Module 5: Leadership Skills
Develop leadership skills and undertake peer mentoring and informal coaching in a
health or wellbeing setting.
Entry requirements
- New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) in Health Assistance or Support Work strand or equivalent qualification OR
- Three (3) year's paid employment experience within the Health and Wellbeing sector.
- All learners must have English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Advanced Care and Support (Level 4), graduates will be able to:
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, whānau, and family members to support the health and wellbeing of people with complex needs.
- Support registered health professionals by safely carrying out delegated clinical tasks within a health or wellbeing setting.
- Apply knowledge of health conditions and organisational processes to deliver culturally appropriate, person-centred and relationship-centred care for individuals with complex needs.
- Communicate clearly and professionally in culturally appropriate ways, including preparing reports, maintaining accurate records, and engaging in challenging conversations within a health or wellbeing environment.
- Demonstrate leadership skills by providing formal or informal mentoring and coaching to colleagues in the workplace.
Level 3 vs Level 4: What's the difference?
- Level 3:
- Focuses on basic operational knowledge and skills
- Work is often done under supervision or guidance
- Tasks are usually structured and routine
- Prepares you for entry-level roles or further study
- Level 4:
- Involves more advanced knowledge and problem-solving
- Requires greater independence and judgement
- May include responsibility for others or outcomes
- Prepares you for skilled roles or supervisory positions
