This programme prepares young people to step confidently into careers in uniformed services like the New Zealand Police, Fire and Emergency, NZ Defence Force, security, and emergency response. Students will develop leadership, communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills through practical training and real-world scenarios. Advanced fitness training and military-style drills ensure that students graduate with the resilience and discipline needed in uniformed services. Along the way, you’ll also explore your own values and strengths, learning how to use them to support your community and thrive in challenging situations.
This course provides learners the opportunity to consider their own culture and values, and how these might impact on themselves and others in Aotearoa New Zealand in their role as a team member of a community project or event related to uniformed services.
This course aims to develop learners’ skills to investigate, collaborate and self-reflect to ensure they gain a good understanding of the issues and opportunities that apply to educational and employment pathways into their chosen field of uniformed services.
This course provides learners with the knowledge of various tools and techniques of identifying problems and ensuring relevant solutions and appropriate decision-making skills are applied to uniformed services-related scenarios, while working collaboratively.
- Open to students who are 17 years of age or older
- It is recommended applicants hold NCEA Level 1 or equivalent.
- Reflect on their own values, culture, and strengths, understanding how these influence their role within a team and their impact on others.
- Develop personal goals and plans, assessing opportunities, skills, and barriers to pursue a career in uniformed services or further study.
- Apply collaboration, investigation, and self-reflection skills to understand issues and opportunities relevant to education and employment pathways.
- Analyse problems and make decisions in practical, uniformed services scenarios, applying appropriate solutions and teamwork strategies.
- Demonstrate leadership, communication, and resilience through practical training and real-world activities, preparing for careers in New Zealand Police, Fire and Emergency, NZ Defence Force, security, or emergency response.
