This programme is ideal for those ready to step into the healthcare sector with purpose, empathy, and practical capability. The NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) provides essential knowledge and real-world skills to support people with complex physical, emotional, and social needs — including those in aged care, palliative care, and vulnerable situations. You’ll learn how to navigate ethical and legal responsibilities, recognise signs of abuse, and deliver person-centred care with cultural sensitivity. Led by experienced tutors in a supportive environment, this programme prepares you to provide safe and meaningful care where it matters most.
This course prepares students in professional conduct, communication, and ethical standards with an emphasis on culturally safe practices for supporting Māori in healthcare. It explores Māori values and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi —partnership, participation, and protection — along with professional practices, the Code of Rights, and ethical guidelines. Students will learn to explain culturally safe principles, apply legal and ethical standards, and use communication strategies that honour individuals’ cultural needs, health, and well-being.
This course examines the ageing process and its impact on well-being, with a focus on palliative care needs and identifying signs of abuse. Students will learn to explain ageing’s health effects across cultures, recognize abuse types and vulnerability, and understand the support worker’s role in providing culturally sensitive palliative care. Key topics include physical effects of ageing, factors contributing to vulnerability, abuse indicators, and principles for compassionate, culturally appropriate care.
This course focuses on person-centred care principles, emphasising holistic support, risk and hazard management, and promoting independence in a culturally sensitive manner. Students will develop skills in safe handling techniques, equipment use, and emergency procedures essential for healthcare settings.
This course allows students to apply their acquired skills within a supervised healthcare environment, focusing on culturally appropriate, person-centred care. Core topics cover addressing the cultural needs of Māori, Pasifika, and other communities, as well as supporting individuals with physical disabilities and early-stage dementia. Students will learn to observe and respond to changes, promote independence, and deliver holistic care. The learning outcomes emphasise providing culturally appropriate support, fostering independence, and practicing person-centred principles.
